After 28 years, the 2009 Great American Beer Festival is running bigger, stronger and more recyclable than ever. Sept. 24-26 roughly 49,000 drinkers tried to put away 18,000 gallons of beer, which would be about 2.7 gallons apiece or 335-odd one ounce pours. There must be a hell of a tailgate party somewhere.

On my way from the hotel to the fest three French folks stopped to ask me directions to some place which I didn’t quite understand. “Je ne suis pas d’ici,” I said (I’m not from around here). Then I heard the word Mondial. Oh, Beer Fest? Follow me (suivez moi)!
