After 28 years, the 2009 Great American Beer Festival is running bigger,
stronger and more recyclable than ever. Sept. 24-26 roughly 49,000 drinkers
tried to put away 18,000 gallons of beer, which would be about 2.7 gallons
apiece or 335-odd one ounce pours. There must be a hell of a tailgate party
somewhere.

On my way from the hotel to the fest three French folks stopped to ask
me directions to some place which I didn’t quite understand. “Je ne suis pas
d’ici,” I said (I’m not from around here). Then I heard the word Mondial. Oh,

Ever since Philadelphia kicked off its premier edition of Philly Beer Week with the bold claim that the City of Brotherly Love was also, in fact, “The Best Beer-Drinking City in America,” the debate has raged as whether or not this is indeed the case.
