I go up there every November for the Maine Brewers Fest. We usually start off at Gritty McDuff's. Great craft brews. I love the Halloween Ale that time of year. They also have a great brown ale and a their summer ale is pretty good as well. There some other great bars in the area, but I'm usually too drunk to remember the names of the places I'm at after the fest! Hope this can get you started.

If you're in Portland, you've got to go to Novare Res. Limited food menu but spectacular beer selection and a really great bartender.
