Looking for a brew kit for under $300 10 Months ago Karma: 0
What's up?
Just looking to get into home brewing for the first time and I don't want to go crazy with money, at least not yet. Any one with any suggestions? I've seen quite a few on the internet but I 'd like if someone is using a product they would suggest that works as advertised. I guess I just don't want to get stuck with a cheap product and than hate making beer as a result.
Thanks all,
Rob

Rob - The best place is your local home brew shop, if you have one. Even if it costs a few dollars more, you can't beat the personal attention and advice. Otherwise I like Listerman.com, Morebeer.com, and Williamsbrewing.com. There are plenty of others, but these are the ones I've used and liked. Listerman has free shipping east of the Mississippi.

Rob - Try makewinebeer.com. They are my local homebrew store. Good prices and they'll take the time to help you out.

I use a 5 gallon (barely) glass carboy I acquired at a kitchen supply store, along with a 3 gallon stock pot from same. Next time, I'll get a better pot--bigger with a thicker bottom. I still brew 90% of the time in 3 gallon batches.

Plastic 3 gallon carboys from water coolers are good for secondary tanks.

I'd bought all this stuff before I'd realized there was a LHBS not too far away, now I get pretty much everything there--airlocks, stoppers, bottling supplies, etc.

Check thee guys out, helpful and in the know--

I second that if you go to www.homebrewtalk.com they will be able to help you with anything you need. Also you might want to check your local craigslist and ebay because you can usually get good deals on there.
