Is Beer Combustible? 2 Months ago Karma: 0
Although this may seem like a terrible waste of beer, I am hoping that someone can help resolve a dispute.
Is beer combustible?
The different camps think, respectively, that anything containing alcohol will burn, or that the alcohol-water ratio in beer is not conducive to burning.
Although I am inclined toward the latter, for fun we are trying to design an experiment to support/debunk the "beer is combustible" theory.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thank you.

I believe it is the alcohol vapors which are burning, not the alcohol liquid phase. The heat of the flame vaporizes the liquid. Since beer has so much water which will tend to absorb heat and not allow the alcohol to vaporize beer will not burn. However if you distill the alcohol it will burn.

While doubting the combustibility of beer (with all the water and relatively low alcohol count) I do believe after drinking in Key West for a week straight left me in a highly combustible state.
